CENTRAL CUBA

The Bay of Pigs and the Zapata Peninsula

An outstanding wetlands area, renowned for its birdlife and cocodile population.  A great museum at Playa Giron provides a facinating Cuban perspective on the Bay of Pigs Invasion.

Cienfuegos

A bustling port city with wide French stye boulavards, a Spanish fortress and exrensive botanical gardens.

Santa Clara and Remedios

Both old colonial centres.  Those on the revolutionary trail may want to visit the museums and monumnets in Santa Clara that commemorate Guevara's victory here in December 1958. 

Trinidad

This Unesco heritage site is one of the best preserved and most beautiful colonail cities in Latin America, occupying a stunning location at teh base of a mountain range, overlooking the Caribbean Sea.  There are golden sandy beaches at nearby Playa Ancon and great hiking at Tope de Collantes.
