Tamarindo

One of the nicest beach resort areas in Guanacaste with a 'local feel' bubbling under the surface, it is a fun place to be. The beach lingers for two or three kilometres over some rocky headlands. There's a great selection of bars and restaurants and a lively nightlife. Leatherback turtles sometimes favour it too, as it is a good safe place to come and lay their eggs.

Manuel Antonio National Park

This is the smallest and one of the most popular Parks in the country so in peak season you will not be alone. Beautiful beaches cluster around the bays and coves of the headland set against a jungly backdrop of tropical rainforest, which can be explored via a network of paths and trails. Mammals and birds abound - look out for the shimmering Green Kingfisher fishing off the rocks and the amazing Laughing Falcon. Some of the best lodges in Costa Rica are just outside the park so if you are looking for luxury this is a good option.
