THE FAR NORTH

Copper Canyon

This has to be one of the most amazing rail journeys in the world. Thirteen hours from the high plains of Chihuahua up across the Continental Divide and the peaks of the Sierra Madre before plunging down to the Pacific coast and Los Mochis. The scenery is unbelievable and you'll notice small groups of isolated communities along the way. The best way to make this trip last is to stay for a night or two at one of the small settlements en-route. The adventurous can disembark at Divisadero and Creel and hike to the canyon's bottom to camp.

Baja California

782 miles in length and mostly desert, many of the visitors are attracted to this peninsula for the ‘close encounter’ whale watching, from January to March. It is also renowned for deep sea fishing opportunities and other watersports. For those who want more than just lying on the beach, you can hire a car and explore the arid desert coastlines, old missions and quaint colonial towns.
