Villa Paraiso
Right on the Santo Domingo beach on Ometepe Island. This is not a luxury hotel but the best of its kind on the island so far. With 20 bungalows set along the beach, it is about 50 minutes drive from Moyogalpa and right between the island’s 2 important volcanoes, Maderas and Concepcion. Hotel Villa Paraiso is an excellent base to explore this remarkable island.
Our Opinion: Although simple in style, it is quite charming, and the friendly atmosphere will make your stay very pleasant.

Hotel Los Balcones
Just two blocks from the central plaza, the new Hotel Los Balcones is a beautifully refurbished colonial house. The property is a muddle of small courtyards and areas that have been decorated with old patterned tiles, Nicaraguan artefacts and rich splashes of colour. Some of the rooms have glimpses of the cathedral and the balcony rooms are great for people watching. Los Balcones is well located, in the heart of Leon.
Our Opinion: A small friendly mid range option.

Hotel El Convento
El Convento is one of Nicaragua’s most charming hotels and the nearest thing you will find to a Trips Five Frog rating in the country. The building was originally the first convent built in Leon, El Convento de San Francisco, founded in 1639 by the Reverend Fray Pedro de Zuñiga. Even though this hotel is not as luxurious as the five frog hotels offered in other Latin American countries, there are very few hotels that are of such importance historically, for which we consider it to be a very special place.
Our Opinion: A hotel filled with character and history.

Finca La Cumplida
La Cumplida is a working coffee plantation near Matagalpa. The two rooms in the main house are basic but very clean and comfortable. This is a very peaceful location and you could spend hours in the Finca gardens observing local birdlife. The main reason to visit is to experience a traditional coffee plantation and experience a little of rural Nicaragua. It's also possible to assist with work on the plantation if you wish.
Our Opinion: A fantastic experience, not to be missed.

La Gran Francia
La Gran Francia is one of the best examples of Spanish colonial construction in Nicaragua. Extensive internal corridors are bedecked with intricately designed floors, and its high roof is adorned by aged terracotta Spanish tiles. Located in the south-eastern corner of El Parque Colon, it is thought that the building dates back to the founding of the city in 1524.
Our Opinion: Comfort with character.

Hotel La Pergola
This 19th century colonial hotel has been lovingly restored to conserve the characteristics of the colonial home it used to be. The hotel is centrally located just three blocks away from the “parque central” and just four blocks away from the main restaurants and bars. The 11 rooms are fairly basic but all offer air-conditioning, ceiling fans, Cable TV and private bathrooms. There is also a leafy and airy courtyard with hammocks for stargazing.
