MANAGUA & SURROUNDINGS
Masaya
Located 40 minutes away from the country’s bustling capital Managua, Masaya is known as the folkloric and handicraft centre of Nicaragua. Backed by the Volcano Masaya, which lies in a National Park named after it, it is an attractive town to wander round. The two volcanoes house five of the most spectacular craters in the world, one of which can be reached by car
The White Villages
One of the most picturesque regions of Nicaragua lies south of Managua, it is known as the white villages. They can be found along the road which links Managua, Masaya and Granada. The region, well known for its coffee plantations, preserves traditions inherited from the Chorotega and Mangue tribes who lived there before Spanish colonialization. Typical food, crafts and fiestas live on in these small, laid back villages.
