COUP D'ETAT IN THAILAND
This is the official information from the UK Government Website on Thailand at midday on 20th September:
` On 19 September 2006 the Thai Army Commander, General Sonthi Booyaratglin, announced that he had established a Reform Council to take over the administration of the country. A nationwide state of Martial law has been declared. The British Embassy in Bangkok is closely monitoring the situation. If you are currently in Bangkok, you should avoid moving around the city wherever possible. If you intend to travel to, or are currently in Thailand, you should monitor all available information on the local situation and keep in contact with your tour operator. You should also avoid any demonstrations and large crowds. Movements around government buildings in Bangkok and in public may be restricted until the situation becomes clearer'
There is currently no Foreign Office travel advice telling people not to travel to Thailand and our holidays are operating as normal . We are in contact with our local representatives in the country and are closely monitoring the situation. We will post updates on this page as and when they happen.
