Cuba, the Caribbean’s largest island offers a steamy blend of socialism and salsa, great cigars and classic American cars. We still have availability in January for 16-day fly-drive holidays focussing on the countryside and beaches of the Pinar-del-Rio province, where much of Cuba’s cigar tobacco is cultivated, and the country’s glorious capital, Havana.

Spend three nights exploring Havana, supping mojitos in Hemmingway’s favourite bars and dancing to those latin rythms. Havana Vieja is the exquisite old cobblestoned colonial centre of the city, simply oozing atmosphere and gently decaying splendour. After a taste of one of the world’s most fascinating, vibrant and frayed capital cities it’s time to pick up a hire car and head out of town to arguably one of the most beautiful parts of Cuba, Pinar-del-Rio. Pinar is Cuba’s tobacco land, rich and fertile, with several national parks and a UNESCO ‘Reserve of the Biosphere’ protecting a diverse selection of plant, animal and bird-life. After an early morning drive to Palma Rubia, board the ferry to Cayo Levisa, one of over 4000+ low-lying coral cays surrounding Cuba. This tiny island has white coral beaches, thick mangroves and an abundance of sea birds and marine life and is the perfect place to spend a couple of leisurely days. In complete contrast, the weathered limestone mountain ranges of the Guaniguanico create the magical landscape of Vinales Valley, characterised by caves, steep-sided valleys and mogotes, the limestone towers covered in hanging vegetation, that thrust up from the flat valley floor.

Heading back towards Havana, visits are made to the natural reserve of Soroa in the Sierra del Rosario Mountains and the eco village of Las Terrazas. Soroa is famous for its waterfalls and beautiful Orchidarium, home to over 700 species. Back in sultry Havana it’s time for more authentic Cuban culture – music, dance, food and fiesta – time for the Cuban heels perhaps!
