DRIVE OF YOUR LIFE

Until today I thought I had seen all the magnificent sights Latin America has to offer - but I was wrong! In the little visited North West region of Argentina I travelled with my family in a hired 4 x 4 pick up from Cafayate to Colome, a 3 hour journey, mostly on a gravel road with eye popping scenery at every turn.

The stretch known as Quebrada de las Flechas (the gorge of arows) has amazing rock formations eroded over hundreds of years by the wind which tower above you. With every turn in the road the vista changes capturing massive peaks and desert valleys all encompassed by the bluest sky you have ever seen. This is miles and miles of film set back drops which no camera has a hope of capturing.

As I write this I am sitting on my patio in what has to be one of the most remote but also one of the best hotels in South America, Colome Estancia. With only 9 rooms and an exquisite ambience, I defy anyone not to be relaxed within a couple of hours of being here. Every attention to detail has been thought of accompanied by home grown organic food and excellent estate wines. In fact I am drinking a glass of their Malbec right now!

Of course it is winter here so the nights are cold but the days are beautiful with the bluest skys you will ever see (sorry to repeat but cannot get over this sky). This is day four of our trip and so far it has been a delightful adventure and all the more special for the lack of tourists and the sheer friendliness of the local people.
