ERUPTION IN THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS

Sierra Negra volcano, on Isabela Island, erupted late Saturday afternoon. The explosion released an immense ash cloud 30 km (18.75 miles) up into the sky. According to the Galapagos National Park, there are now three lava flows to the western part of the island. It’s estimated these flows will continue for several days and do not represent any danger to the tortoises, penguin and cormorant populations along the coast.
