NEW ACTIVE CUBA ITINERARY

This itinerary for the more adventurous takes you from touring Habana Vieja in a 1950’s car, to cycling through the countryside of Western Cuba, to a hiking trip in the Sierra del Escambray Mountains visiting caves, lakes and waterfalls. You will visit also some key locations in Che Guevara’s revolutionary history before a few days of relaxation on one of Cuba’s best unspoilt beaches. What better way to explore this unique island?

Day 1

After your day flight to Havana, you will be met at the airport and taken directly to your hotel, Hostal Valencia (BB) in Old Havana

Day 2

The next morning you will be collected from your hotel for a tour of Cuba’s capital in a stylish 1950’s car (lunch included).

Day 3

Put on your peddling shoes for a pleasant day’s cycling to the delightful Moka Ecolodge (BB), Cuba’s main centre for ecotourism. In the small community of Las Terrazas. You will be accompanied by a specially adapted 14-seater vehicle and expert guide throughout.

Day 4

A free day to explore the Sierra del Rosario Reserve, activities offered at the lodge include horse riding, walking, fishing and mountain biking. Alternatively you can relax at the pool, taking in the wonderful surroundings.

Day 5

Your personal guide and vehicle will drive you to the town of San Diego de los Banos ready for your cycle through La Guira National Park, where you will pass Che Guevara’s cave, his HQ during the Cuban missile crisis. You will stay in La Ermita hotel (BB) with fantastic views over the Viñales valley.

Day 6

A free day to explore the Viñales valley, with its steep cliffs of the limestone “mogotes” and flat valley floors used to cultivate tobacco plants for the cigars.

Day 7

An early morning start for your transfer to Cienfuegos. After lunch you can cycle along the coastal road to the beautiful Old Colonial City of Trinidad, where you will be staying at the Las Cuevas hotel (HB).

Day 8

Leave your bike and put on your hiking boots for a two-day guided trek in the Sierra del Escambray Mountains, including one night camping in a jungle lodge. Your luggage will be transported for you!

Day 9

The second day of your trek will include a boat trip along Hanabanilla Lake, stopping for a swim at Rio Negro waterfall and a bite to eat at Rio Negro restaurant. That evening you will be transferred to Santa Clara

Day 10

Visit the museums and monuments in Santa Clara that commemorate Che Guevara’s and the Revolution’s victory here in December 1958. Stay in the cabañas at Los Caneyes (BB).

Days 11-13

Spend the last three days of your trip relaxing at Cayo Las Brujas (HB). A series of wooden cabins stretching along this peaceful and picturesque coastline.

Day 14

Return to Havana for a last night of Mojitos and Merengue before the overnight flight back to the UK.

From £1800 per person including fights with Virgin Atlantic, visa, transfers, accommodation and some meals. Price based on hotels stated, or similar, and on a minimum of 4 passengers sharing twin or double rooms. Passengers will need to bring their own bikes. This is a great option for an active family.
