Days 1-31 - Semi-circumnavigation Journey
Cruise in Zodiacs through ice floes, looking out for seals and landing at penguin rookeries before heading south towards the Antarctic Peninsula. Cross the Antarctic Circle into a world of continuous daylight, marveling at bays gorged with icebergs before your icebreaker takes you into the Bellingshausen Sea.
Follow the Phantom Coast and attempt to land at Peter I Island where only around 800 people have visited before you. In the Amundsen Sea enjoy helicopter trips to fully appreciate the dramatic pack ice. Approach the immense Ross Ice Shelf and look out for emperor penguins before visiting the research bases (including Scott’s Discovery hut) on Ross Island.
At Cape Royds visit Shackleton’s Nimrod Hut (1907-09), considered one of the ten most endangered monuments in the world. Heading north pause at Campbell Island, where royal albatross nest. If conditions allow, visit Enderby Island with its penguins, royal albatross and New Zealand sea lions, before concluding your epic adventure in Lyttelton, New Zealand.
