ARCTIC
The huge bear meets your gaze across the snow and ice, cubs jostle close behind. A walrus surfaces nearby as the sounds of birds echo between soaring mountains of spectacular blue-green ice…
For centuries explorers have been drawn to the frozen north with its astonishing bird and wildlife, far-flung settlements and beautiful, immense, glacial scenery. Now the “Land of the Midnight Sun” awaits your visit!
Greenland
One of the least visited places in the world and one of the best places to see icebergs in the Arctic. Less than 100 passenger ships have ever sailed the magnificent glacial coastline of the east, while in the south the Prins Christian Sound throws up breathtaking and remote snow-capped mountains. Further up the coast, discover the largest fjord complex and sail the longest fjord in the world. The Greenlanders are welcoming, the scenery awe-inspiring and Arctic wildlife, fascinating. What’s more, on fine nights you may be lucky enough to see the Aurora Borealis, the “Northern Lights”.
Spitsbergen
Six hundred miles from the North Pole, Spitsbergen is about the same size as Ireland and boasts teeming colonies of birds, polar bears, walruses, minke whales, Arctic foxes and reindeer. Its spectacular scenery combines arctic tundra with towering snowy mountains and astounding glaciers. A remote and peaceful place, the island is best explored by inflatable boat ensuring a closer look at the spectacular scenery, local marine and wildlife and 170 species of flowering plants. The unpredictability of the weather and ice conditions means that no expedition is the same and the lucky visitor will enjoy a unique and hugely memorable trip to this little visited island.
Canada
Through the majestic vastness of the Arctic Sea explorers came in search of the elusive Northwest Passage. Frobisher made the first attempt in 1576 but it took 300 hundred years before Roald Amundsen triumphantly succeeded. Now it’s your turn to visit Canada’s frozen north coast and travel through waters that very few have visited before. Experience the history and hospitality of the Inuit culture as you sail between the islands. The area is rich in marine life with bowhead, narwhals and beluga whales around Baffin Island and the neighbouring bays. Marvel at the awe-inspiring icebergs while watching out for polar bears, seals and seabirds.
