11-DAY NORTHERN ARGENTINA ITINERARY

Always on the look out for extra special properties to incorporate into their tailor-made holidays, Latin American specialists, Trips Worldwide fell for their latest ‘new find’ in Iguazu, one of South America’s top watery destinations. La Aldea de la Selva Lodge offers a unique luxury rainforest experience with lots of activities centred around the spectacular falls, and is included in Trips Worldwide’s 11-day Northern Argentina itinerary for 2008. The holiday also features a visit to Salta in the Andean foothills, a stay on a working Estancia and time to soak up the Latino atmosphere in Buenos Aires. Tours depart London daily.

From Buenos Aires, fly to the border of Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina, and transfer to Iguazu Falls, arguably the world’s largest and most spectacular falls. Guests stay at La Aldea de la Selva Lo dge, a new property for Trips Worldwide, close to the falls. Each guestroom is surrounded by rainforest and features a balcony strung with hammocks. Lots of activities are offered here including rappelling down the falls (abseiling), jungle hiking and 4-WD safaris. From steamy Iguazu, head to the Andean foothills and the historic city of Salta, the starting point for explorations of the rich, wine producing Calchaqui Valleys and Humahuaca Canyon. There is excellent walking and horse riding, good wine (Salta’s wine production dates back to the Spanish Conquest) and impressive scenery to whet one’s appetite. Guests are accommodated in the centre of Salta in a traditional colonial-style hotel. The return journey to Buenos Aires is punctuated with a stay at a luxurious Estancia, a lovely place to unwind, enjoy an ‘asado’ (bbq) and gain a good insight into the life of an Argentine Gaucho. These traditional working ranches are almost exclusive to Argentina and most have been in the same family for generations.
