The first hotel to open along the Copacabana beach in 1923, it has remained the best and the most luxurious. It has pride of place on the promenade facing the Atlantic Ocean and the magnificent beach. Located in the elegant area of Ipanema and just 100-metres from the beach, this is one of the best hotels in the area. A stones throw away from some of the most sophisticated restaurants, bars and shops in Rio, Ipanema is the perfect alternative to Copacabana. Pousada Do Canto
The Pousada Do Canto is located five minutes walk from the centre of village Abraao, on Ilha Grande, right on the beach of Praia do Canto. With beautiful views of the sea, it is a characterful yet simple place to stay with a swimming pool and bar. Two of the eleven apartments have a view of the sea and a verandah. All apartments are equipped with private bathroom, air conditioning, ceiling fan and mini-bar.

This charming boutique hotel is nestled in the hills overlooking the stunning bay of Buzios, just two hours from Rio. With individually decorated rooms and suites, the pousada has elegant Mediterranean architecture and a refined and laid-back atmosphere. A five-minute walk to the centre of town, the pousada is divided into several levels. All guestrooms face the sea and some have their own balconies.

Situated in a calm and peaceful bay in the sleepy fishing village of Picinguaba, the pousada is 30-minutes south of Paraty. Overlooking the sea and a protected 3km long sandy beach, it offers charming, rustic rooms opening out to the natural surroundings. There is a dream honeymoon suite with jacuzzi and breathaking views over the ocean. The road stops at the beach, so access to the hotel is on foot.

This hotel is brimming with character. Situated in a beautiful colonial building opposite the main church, the Igreja da Marquesa, it is ideally situated close to the harbour, but away from the main strip of Paraty. all rooms have high ceilings, dark wood and colonial style furniture. This is a lovely, simple place to stay. The spacious courtyard now houses a refreshing pool with lots of plants and shade.

This ocean front resort style hotel is situated in a beautiful spot on the Porto de Galinhas beach. With 134 spacious apartment rooms, three pools and two restaurants it offers everything a good quality hotel should. They offer diving, kayak trips, jangada boat trips, horse riding and jeep safaris in the surrounding area. The beaches are extremely beautiful in this area with a coral reef just off the coast.

Nannai Beach Resort
Near Recife in Brazil’s tropical north, Nannai is a luxury resort on the one of the most beautiful beaches in the area. Water is the theme here with all of the Balinese style thatched bungalows having its own private pool or whirlpool. Built on stilts, the bungalows are decorated in bright colours with flowing fabrics, tiled floors and simple wooden furniture. The restaurant serves local and international cuisine or, if you prefer, go into nearby Porto Galinhas where there’s a wide range of lively bars and restaurants.

Located in the old part of town, this historic 26 room hotel is built in an eighteenth century colonial house. There is a nautical theme here, and a more modern feel than in many of the other Paraty pousadas. The decor is colourful and elegant. There is a pool and a sauna whilst the restaurant of the hotel is open to the public and one of the best (and priciest) in Paraty.

Hotel Sitio do Lobo
This hotel is a great place to relax with a touch of luxury. Its charmingly decorated rooms are hidden amongst the trees along the hillside. Situated on the coast of Ilha Grande, the hotel has kayaks for your use, a great way to explore the coastline and other nearby beaches. From here you can also enjoy a hike across the road free island, or simply just relax in the pool over looking the bay and mainland in the distance. Food and drinks are served all day.

This wonderful luxurious mansion house in the heart of Santa Teresa in Rio, overlooks Rio's Guanabara Bay. Santa Teresa is colourful area with lots of authentic Brazilian restaurants and bars. The hotel has been perfectly transformed into one of Rio's best boutique properties, with each room stylishly designed with a different theme including the fabulous Josephine Baker room! You can take a tram to go to down town – it is quite fun and the hotel is only 15-20 minutes from the beach. From the modern designed rooms, there is a view of Rio's well known beaches and the famous Pão de Açucar.

This stylish hotel has 64 rooms and is classically decorated throughout. The facilities are as you would expect from a luxury hotel with a gym, rooftop swimming pool, sauna and a renowned restaurant, which attracts much of the wealthy Sao Paulan population. There is also a fashionable jazz bar. The service is attentive here and the staff will volunteer suggestions as to places to visit in their city. The hotel is located in the prestigious Jardim Paulista district and is surrounded by some of Sao Paulo’s finest shops and boutiques.

Praia Do Forte Eco Resort
Set in 155,000 square miles of tropical surroundings, this eco resort has all the facilities you would expect from an exclusive hotel. There are four swimming pools to relax in as well as good restaurants and live music. Quite a large resort, it has however been built sympathetically with the surroundings. There are miles of white sandy beaches, and the water is clear and good for snorkelling or diving.

Pousada Das Flores
Located in Vitoria, a quiet part of town, this simple pousada is a short walk from the historic centre of Salvador. The building itself is a beautiful old converted house, full of colour, woodern panels, baldaquin beds and plant filled terraces. The rooms are comfortable and an excellent breakfast is served. Note that this is a traditional building, therefore no air conditioning is on offer although the rooms have fans.

Solar do Carmo Hotel
An old 18th-century mansion has been remodeled and turned into the Hotel Solar do Carmo. Totally renovated, the manor-house that was part of the history, now offers all the comfort and tradition of a 4 star hotel. Located in a street that represents a mix of fun, tradition, faith and culture, the Solar do Carmo is also part of local history. It has a breathtaking view of the Baía de Todos os Santos or 'All Saints' Bay'.

Juma Lodge is located 100km south of Manaus and is reached by road and by boat and was built to totally integrate into the jungle. All rooms are very comfortable with a lovely view of the forest an the river with a screened window, providing the great sense of being in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Each bungalow has a hammock on the balcony so you can relax.

Hotel Das Cataratas
The only hotel actually within the national park and one of the best places to stay in the area. There are lovely gardens here and a swimming pool. Well appointed for Iguacu Falls, it has all the facilities you would expect from a luxury hotel. The two hundred rooms are of varying standards and some have fabulous views overlooking the falls.

This is one of the few low-rise hotels in the area. At 13kms from the falls, it is actually one of the closest hotels and is situated on the road from town to the entrance of the Iguacu National Park. There is a friendly and lively atmosphere and communal spaces are airy and spacious. There are trails to walk through the gardens and forest, as well as a pool and tennis court.

Located 10 minutes from the city centre and 20 minutes from the airport, this 164 room hotel is situated in a quiet, pleasant area. The hotel is comfortable and a good place for people to stay when flying in to the city late at night and on to the jungle the next day.

Anavilhanas Lodge
Anavilhanas Lodge is located in the Anavilhanas archipelago, just 100km and approximately 3½ hours from the city of Manaus, on the banks of the Rio Negro. The Anavilhanas is an excellent choice for travellers looking to experience the Amazon without sacrificing luxury and exclusivity. Despite its extensive amenities, the hotel is small, private and very charming. There are 16 bungalows with thatched roof tops that maintain the traditional caboclo style of the region and each have a private terrace where you can take in nature’s beauty while unwinding in the comfy hammocks.

This lovely hotel is the perfect romantic option in the large city of Natal. The guestrooms all have charming little touches from the owners Eduardo and his wife Carla. The reception and dining room are furnished with antiques and Eduardo's rock collections (he is also a geologist). There is a beautiful bar and you can dine al-fresco overlooking the pool.

This charming little pousada is a converted house located in the heart of Olinda. It is full of character but being family run is also extremely homely. All rooms are comfortable, the staff friendly and the service good. There is a small pool.
