INLAND BRAZIL
Iguaçú Falls
Wider than Victoria and higher than Niagara, the falls of Iguaçú are truly spectacular. They border Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay and can be viewed from the former two. Set in a beautiful national park where you can see orchids, toucans and many species of butterfly, a few days can easily be spent here admiring the falls and visiting the rainforest.
Pantanal
This vast area of wetland hosts rich and diverse ecosystems where you will see more wildlife than anywhere else in Brazil. Formerly an inland sea, the 230,00km of land is very flat which makes it much easier to view the wildlife than in the confines of the jungle. Birds, monkeys, armadillos, caiman, anteaters and even pumas can be spotted. From here it is easy also to visit the tablelands of Chapada dos Guimarães National Park and the southern Amazon basin.
