NORTH EASTERN ADVENTURE

Featuring: Salvador, Chapada da Diamantina National Park, Morro de Sao Paulo, Praia do Forte

We adore the North East of Brazil and feel it is often neglected by first time visitors. Here you can literally find miles and miles of empty beaches. This combined with vibrant and colonial Salvador and some trekking makes a great itinerary.

Days 1 to 3 - Salvador

Fly from London to Salvador. Transfer to your hotel. Free days to explore this vibrant colonial city.

Salvador lies on the coast in the biggest bay in the world. Nearby are some of the loveliest beaches in Brazil as well as a charming colonial centre. Over the past few years the city has done a lot to ensure that its beautiful old buildings are restored to their former glory. Walk around the main centre as a lot of the roads are pedestrianised and you get a much better feel of the city on foot. The main square is surrounded by impressive government buildings and the cobbled streets are full of restaurants, bars and artisan shops. Taken a giant lift down the cliff to visit the municipal market.

Days 4 to 6 - Chapada da Diamantina National Park

Transfer by bus (7 hours) to Lencois. With its 152 thousand hectares of caverns, canyons, cascades, and deep valleys of varied flora and fauna, the Chapada Diamantina National Park is one of the most attractive ecological refuges of Brazil. The park, established in 1985, contains an extraordinary variety of ecosystems and is home to endemic flowers like the orchids and bromeliads, as well as many species of animal such as the humming bird, frogs and even fish yet to be catalogued by biologists.

Days 8 to 10 - Morro de Sao Paulo

Accommodation options: Hotel Portalo

Days 11 to 15 - Praia do Forte

Transfer back to Salvador and then one hour north to Praia do Forte, where you will spend 5 nights (HB).

Praia do Forte Eco Resort was the first eco hotel in Brazil, constructed in 1980 and it was awarded the Best Resort in Brazil for environmental merit in 2005. It is set in 155,000 square miles of tropical surroundings with miles of pretty white sand beaches and clear waters that are excellent for snorkelling or diving. Within the Sarapiranga Preserve, not far from Praia do Forte Eco Resort, the Tamar Sea Turtle Project - the national program for the protection of marine turtles - takes place. Populations were declining rapidly due to the selective killing of the females as they came ashore to lay their eggs and so the Brazilian Federal Institute for the Environment created Project Tamar. If you are interested to learn more about the project or the life of a sea turtle then your time here will be a perfect opportunity.

Transfer to Sao Paulo airport for your return overnight flight to the UK.
