Going south from Quito you follow the spine of the Andes, commonly known as the Avenue of the Volcanoes. On your way you will pass through the highest peaks in Ecuador and the national parks of Cotopaxi and Chimborazo. You will pass through the warm, steamy town of Banos with thermal springs and the nearby tropical national park of Sangay. You can travel on the roof of a train on one of the world’s most spectacular rail journeys – The Devil’s Nose.
