Located 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean, the Galàpagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic origin that dates back 6 million years. The origin of life here was bacteria, alga and fungi, offering the organic base for species that arrived with marine currents or by air, having to develop their own unique skills to survive and multiply. This is why a high percentage of the flora and fauna is endemic. The land and marine species exist nowhere else on earth. There are 13 main islands and 56 inlets. Each one is unique and a paradise for any wildlife enthusiast.
