LAKE TITICACA AND SURROUNDINGS

The highest navigable lake in the world, at 3700m. Its coast is lined by small hamlets of mud huts with indigenous women in bowler hats farming their land. Off the shore lie the Uros Islands, known as the floating islands, made of constantly replaced reeds, and the more solid islands of Amanatani and Taquile. Puno is the main Peruvian town here.
