Amankora Paro
Combining ‘aman’, Sanskrit for peace, with ‘kora’ for circular pilgrimage in Dzongkha, the Bhutanese language, Amankora is a series of lodges in Bhutan’s central and Western valleys.
The 24-suite pine forest retreat contracts rustic with the contemporary. At an elevation of 2250 metres the Paro property is 30 minutes form the airport and is the gateway to the Kingdom.
The guest suites feature a combined lounge and bedroom area with a king-size bed, window seat, reading chair and traditional wood burning stove. The spacious bathroom has a large terrazzo-clad bath, twin vanities, separate shower and toilet.
Our Option: The spa offers many treatments which are very welcome after a hard day trekking in the area.

Hotel Zhiwa Ling Paro
This 45 suite hotel combines traditional Bhutanese architecture with modern technology. The hotel facilities include a Spa, sauna, steam room, gym and as well as a traditional Bhutanese outdoor hot-stone bath. There is a Tea House and Meditation House. The 2 restaurants serve contemporary international cuisine and classic Bhutanese dishes.
Our Opinion: A great hotel for those who like traditional style with great comfort. The suites are well appointed and very spacious.

Uma Paro
Uma Paro is located on a pine covered hillside. Built in the style of a Bhutanese monastery, the hotel combines the traditional with the modern. The guest rooms are very comfortable including DVD player. The hotel has excellent facilities including yoga studio, gym, indoor swimming pool and Spa. The restaurant offers tasty organic whole food with great views.
Our Opinion: An excellent 5 star hotel with first class facilities. There is a relaxed and cosy feel to the property and the staff our very friendly.

Amankora Thimpu
This 16 suite lodge is situated close to the capitals major sights while remaining a quiet retreat. Built in a monastic style, the high ceilings of the lounge and dining area are very dramatic. The suites are rich in natural materials and include all the usual features you would except from a luxury retreat.
Our opinion: A stylish low key place to unwind with excellent food and staff alike.

Hotel Phuntsho Pelri Thimpu
This is a new hotel in a central location. The hotel has a shop, foreign exchange and a beauty salon. The rooms are small but cosy with a nice wooden finish.
Our Opinion: A good budget option with fresh cosy rooms.

Amankora Gantey
In a stunning glacial valley, the eight suite lodge is situated on a forested knoll with spectacular views of the valley floor and the 16th century monastery. This lodge has stunning panorama views from the lounge and dining area.
Our opinion: This is a prime location to view the rare black-necked cranes that flock to this area every October through to March.

Hotel Dewachen
Situated in the Phobjikha Valley, this is a traditional style hotel with a rustic feel. The rooms are comfortable with en suite shower and wood burning stove. The dining area has a cosy feel with a central wood burning stove and floor to ceiling windows, making it a perfect spot to view the Black-necked cranes.
Our Opinion: A great option for those seeking an authentic, rustic but comfortable experience.

Amankora Punakha
This 8 suite property is reached by crossing a suspension bridge and is built around a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse.
The suites are set in an orange orchard with wonderful views of the surrounding rice terraces. Facilities include spa treatment rooms, steam room, yoga/meditation room and tea pavilion.
Our Opinion: This is a truly unique tranquil retreat.
