Magic of the Orient

The holidays in our Orient section were previously operated by Magic of the Orient, which has now joined with its sister company Trips Worldwide.

PARO

The valley of Paro was the only valley wide enough in Bhutan in which to build a runway, hence this is the entry point for all visitors arriving on the national airline Druk Air. This stunning fertile valley is lined with willow trees and apple orchards.

Red and white rice grows in abundance here, and the green terraced fields and forested hills rising on either side, create a beautiful organic setting.

Home to Paro Dzong (Monastery), this is one of Bhutan’s most impressive and the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture. The massive buttressed walls tower over the town. Also in the town is the national museum, housed in an old watchtower built in the 1600’s in the shape of a conch shell.

Close by is Tiger’s Nest monastery one of the most popular spiritual sites, perched on the rock face of a sheer cliff 900m above ground. This is a spectacular walk not to be missed.
