MULU MAGIC, CAMP 5 & PINNACLES

Extend your journey to Mulu National Park and Camp 5 to the incredible stone forest of the Pinnacles.
Day 1 - Deer And Lang Caves
- Fly from Miri to Mulu and transfer to Royal Mulu Resort. P.M. transfer to Park HQ and a 3 km plank walk to Deer and Lang Caves. Witness the bat exodus before returning late evening to the resort.
Day 2 - Melinau Gorge
- Depart for Camp 5 .PM. Comfortable trek through Melinau gorge or relax by the river. Overnight Camp 5, a hostel-style accommodation used as a base-camp by those going on to climb the Pinnacles.
Day 3 - Pinnacles
- Climb to the Pinnacles viewpoint, 2.4 km from Camp 5 and 1,200 metres above it overlooking the Pinnacles. From Camp 5 pass through lowland dipterocarp forest before climbing steeply through moss forest. The trail becomes very slippery, made worse by limestone debris littering the path. The last section of the trail is near vertical with rope sections and aluminium ladders strategically placed to assist. At the top, the vegetation is sparse although orchids, rhododendrons and pitcher plants thrive here. The descent is more difficult than the ascent and the total time taken, including say an hour at the viewpoint, from Camp 5 will depend upon your level of fitness but can vary between 5 - 10 hours.
Day 4 - Wind And Clearwater Caves
- Return down river to the resort stopping at Wind and Clearwater Caves (picnic lunch) and visiting a Penan Settlement.
