MULU MAGIC
Featuring: Deer And Lang Caves, Clearwater And Wind Caves, Mulu - Kuching
World Heritage Mulu National Park is Sarawak's largest park and is important both for its high bio-diversity and for its karst features, one of the most studied tropical karst areas in the world. Three mountains dominate Mulu: Gunung Mulu, Gunung Api and Gunun Benarat. Below the surface, water erosion has created the worlds largest cave passage (Deer Cave) and the worlds largest chamber (Sarawak chamber) and also the longest cave in South East Asia (Clearwater Cave). Explore this fascinating region on a tour, taking in the show caves, some of the variety of floraand fauna and a local settlement. This tour can be extended to include an extra night at camp 5 or for those more adventurous types, why not tackle the mighty Pinnacles by extending this tour by 2 extra nights.
Day 1 - Deer And Lang Caves
Arrive in Mulu airport. Upon arrival, transfer to Royal Mulu Resort for check in. In the afternoon, proceed by longboat or van to Park Headquarters. From the Park HQ, take a scenic 3km plankwalk through primary rainforest to the entrance of Deer Cave. Deer cave has the world's largest cave entrance and is the largest single cave passage in the world - about 120-150m in diameter. The cave has a moon-likelandscape. Most evenings at sundown, a spectacular exodus of about 2 million bats can be observed as they leave the cave in search of food. Next to the Deer Cave is Lang's Cave. The stalactites and stalagmites inside this cave are representitive of the very best limestone formations in the park. Overnight stay at Royal Mulu Resort.

In the morning proceed longboat upriver to Wind Cave with its impressive 'Kings Chamber'. A short walk along a plank walk suspended to the limestone cliff leads to Clearwater Cave. Like most caves in Mulu, Clearwater Cave is the habitat of unique species of plants. One of them, the one-leafed plant can only be found at Mulu. Photo-sensitive algae grows on certain rocks and have produced needle like formations that point towards the source of light. Clearwater Cave has a wonderful swimming area surrounded by giant rainforest trees. Enjoy a picnic lunch, relax, swim and explore the caves before returning to your accomodation. Overnight stay at Royal Mulu Resort.
