OFF THE BEATEN TRACK

Day 2 - Kota Kinabalu
Arrive at Kuala Lumpur and transfer to your next flight to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrivalyour private transfer will collect you and transfer you to the luxurious Tanjung Aru Resort for 2 nights.

Time at leisure to relax and enjoy the resort.

Return private transfer to Kota Kinabalu airport for the short flight across to Tawau on the East Coast of Borneo. On arrival, you will travel for roughly 5-hours to Maliau Basin Security Gate via Kalabakan. Stop for an early lunch at Maskur Restaurant, Marotai, then continue your journey for another 4 hours to Maliau Basin Security Gate and proceed to Agathis Camp where you will stay for the night. After dinner (weather permitting) go for a night drive in search of nocturnal animals through the access road along the Agathis Camp to Belian Camp. Possibly encounter Samber Deer, Bearded Pigs, Malay Civets, Flying Squirrels, Porcupine and the Banteng (locally know as “Tembadau”).
Day 5 - Camel Trophy Camp
After breakfast, begin the 7km trek through the rainforest to reach the Camel Trophy Camp. This will take about 6 hours as you will be trekking over the rim of the Basin. The first two hours of the journey will be the most challenging as it is mostly uphill.
After a stop for your packed lunch, you can relax and enjoy the surrounding rich vegetation. Then onwards to the Camel Trophy Camp for the evening.
Activity Options:
A. Walk to the Giluk Falls, roughly a 1-hour journey and return to Camel Trophy Camp. A dip in the pool is possible or walk to the spectacular Takob Akob Falls, about 100m in height, which is roughly a 2-hour journey each way.
B. Enjoy the surroundings at the Camel Trophy Camp and a swim at a nearby stream.
Day 6 - Lobah Camp
After breakfast, begin your trek through heath/montane forest and down through the highland dipterocarp forest for roughly 5 hours to reach the Lobah Camp, about 8km away. For the first few kilometres on entering the heath forest, discover the abundance of Nepenthes plants (locally referred to as “Monkey Cup”) and wild orchids. At the helicopter pad near Lobah Camp, enjoy the full view of the Maliau Basin rim, which is about 25km in diameter. Enjoy the panoramic view of the stunning Maliau Basin. Descend to the highlight of the adventure - the Maliau Basin Falls. Have a picnic and take out your camera to snap beautiful shots and enjoy a dip in the falls. Trek uphill back to the Lobah Camp for dinner and settle in for the night.
Day 7 - Agathis Camp
After breakfast, trek along the forest making a loop back to the Agathis Camp. This will take between 6 – 8 hours. Settle in at the Agathis Camp for the last night of the adventure in the forest. After dinner, weather permitting, enjoy a second night drive searching for nocturnal animals.
Day 8 - Rasa Ria Resort
After breakfast, drive back to Tawau, through the Maliau Basin Security Gate.
On arrival at Tawau, board the evening flight back to Kota Kinabalu. You will be collected and transferred to the luxurious Rasa Ria Resort.
Days 9-12 - Rasa Ria Resort
Days at leisure to enjoy the Resort.
