WILDLIFE OF BORNEO

Day 1 - Kota Kinabalu - Kinabalu National Park

Depart Kota Kinabalu for the 2-hour drive to Mt. Kinabalu Park, home to numerous species of interesting flora and fauna. Enjoy a guided nature trail with your guide. After lunch watch a video presentation at the Park's exhibition hall before embarking on a walk to the Mountain Garden.

Proceed to Mountain Lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 2 - Poring Hot Springs

After breakfast depart for Poring Hot Springs, developed by the Japanese in WWII. Relax in steaming, sulphurous pools and explore the various nature trails. Visit the butterfly farm and tropical garden. There is also a canopy walkway, 30 metres above the jungle floor - fascinating but not for the faint hearted!
Return to Mountain Lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3 - Kinabalu National Park - Sandakan

After breakfast, depart overland for Sukau. En-route visit Gomantong Caves and explore the largest bird's nest cave in Sabah. Depart for Sukau by the Kinabatangan River. Cross the river by boat. Check-into River Lodge. After lunch, take a boat trip to view proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife until nightfall.

Dinner and overnight stay at River Lodge.

Day 4 - Kinabatangan River

After breakfast, take a second boat trip to cruise up river to Oxbow Lakes for bird watching. Trek the lush riverine forest at the nearby lakes, then return to the River Lodge for lunch. Mid-afternoon, enjoy another boat trip to explore more wildlife along the Menanggul and Kinabatangan River. Return to the lodge.

Dinner and overnight stay at River Lodge.

Day 5 - Sukau - Sandakan - Libaran Island

Depart Sukau River Lodge after breakfast, heading for Sandakan and proceed to Padas Jetty via Sepilok. Transfer by boat to Libaran Island, check in and enjoy lunch. Depart for a river cruise in a nearby mangrove forest. After the cruise return to the Lodge.

Dinner and overnight at Libaran Island Lodge.

Day 6 - Libaran Island - Seligan Turtle Island

After breakfast, take a village walk to observe the local tribes and lifestyle in this rural community. You can also go on a swimming and snorkelling trip at a nearby island before returning to Libaran for lunch. Arrive Selingan Turtle Island by boat and check-in to your chalet. The afternoon is free at your own leisure. After dinner, watch the process of the turtles laying eggs, transferring eggs to the hatchery and releasing them to the sea.

Overnight stay at Island Chalet.

Day 7 - Turtle Island - Sandakan Airport

Depart Selingan Island to Libaran for breakfast, then head to Sandakan. Drive to the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre. The sanctuary is one of only four orang-utan sancturies in the world. Orphaned orang-utan are taken here to be rehabilitated for the wild. After registering, proceed to Platform A to witness the feeding of the orang-utans. Proceed to either walk along a nature trail to see vegetation and animal life in the rainforest or watch a nature video programme at the Nature Education Centre. Return to Sandakan for lunch. Pick up from hotel lobby. Transfer to Sandakan airport where this tour ends.
