Arguably the country to have suffered the most from the Vietnam war and its aftermath, brave Cambodia lives on as custodian to treasures of the ancient Khmer Empire. In the heart of Indochina, Cambodia is rich in cultural traditions much of which predates that of neighbouring Thailand. A former French colony, Cambodia has much in the way of colonial charm and the French influence is very apparent in the capital city of Phnom Penh. The recent period of calm and stability has lead to a renaissance in the country and Siem Reap, gateway to the temples of Angkor, has seen an incredible spurt in hotel development.
